My name is Christine Berg and I am running for a seat on the Lafayette City Council. For many years I was an archaeologist traveling through out the country, and though I enjoyed my years traveling around and digging in the dirt, I definitely missed having a sense of place and community. Here, in Lafayette, I have found that sense of place and community.
After landing in Colorado, I worked with the Boulder County Volunteer Connection, a clearing-house for volunteer opportunities. Our annual “I Volunteer!” Day engaged as many as 600 volunteers in a day of service, and provided support for nonprofits such as Project YES and Sister Carmen. After my experience there, I decided to complete my master's degree in Nonprofit Management at Regis University. In 2008, I managed the recruitment and deployment of over 20,000 enthusiastic volunteers during the Democratic National Convention. I have also worked with the State Department and with international nonprofits, coordinating special events and developing youth leadership curriculum. As your city council member, I will be committed to promoting civic engagement and volunteerism in Lafayette.
I currently work for the office of Congressman Jared Polis. As the Colorado Scheduler and Community Outreach Manager, I provide resources for constituents, coordinate community forums, and manage our annual high school Congressional Art Competition.
I also serve on the Lafayette Historic Preservation Board and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the revitalization of South Public Road by preserving the past with an eye to the future. I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Lafayette as a city council member.
